by
Biography of Brother Andre Bessette.
When Brother Andre died on January 6, 1937, about a million persons climed the slope of St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal in Silent tribute to this renowned yet humble "Little Brother."
For seven days, during temperature of a typical Canadian winter, the crowd filed past the small wooden coffin. The mourners came from Canadian provinces and on specially scheduled trains from Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
Some waited for hours for a final glimpse of his face. They moved slowly in silent prayer. It was obvious that they had lost a friend, who over the years, had helped thousands to go beyond their miseries to find new hope in their daily lives.
